Copy Certification in Ohio

You may be asked to provide a notarized photocopy of a document, such as a birth certificate, passport, visa, certificate of authenticity, etc.  In Ohio, a notary cannot apply their notary seal to "certify" the document is a true copy of the original.  An Ohio notary can only notarize a signature.

As an alternative, you can complete a Copy Certification by Document Custodian.  To do this, you write and sign a statement in ink directly upon the document copy, or sign an attached Copy Certification by Document Custodian form, wherein YOU attest that the document is a true and correct copy of the original.  The Ohio notary adds the signer's preferred notary certificate and notarizes the signature.
